Hoosierman Mission:
To encourage and promote health and fitness while providing a positive environment for participants to challenge
themselves mentally and physically.
Community Partners:
The Hoosierman and Hoosierman Events has been a supporter in the LLS's fight against blood cancers since the
beginning in 2009. Last year they officially signed on as a community partner with LLS and the Team In Training
program. Hoosierman has raised over $2500 through entry fee donations and participant contributions and supports
TNT with helping to organize practice triathlons and lending equipment. We continue to value this partnership and look
forward to many years working together to find a cure. 2011 marked a milestone in LLS and TNT history as they hit
the $1 billion mark for funds raised. Race director has been involved personally since 2008 as both a participant and
a triathlon and cycling coach.

Who We Are:
The Hoosierman is Indiana's premier triathlon in the hills of southern Indiana. It was founded in 2009 by Andre Phillips
and Joshua Smith after 5 years of planning. After graduating Indiana University with a degree in Outdoor Recreation
in 2004 Andre did a 14 week internship at the USA Triathlon National Training Center in Clermont, FL where he
learned the ins and outs of event management, ran a small sprint triathlon series, and created race course for larger
races including Florida's Great Escape Triathlon and the Howie in the Hills half marathon. Upon returning to
Bloomington in the Fall of 2004 he immediately began planning the Hoosierman. After several unsuccessful attempts
to get it going, he moved to Indianapolis and met fellow triathlete Joshua Smith. Joshua was the catalyst that renewed
Andre's interest in the race and together they were able to host the first successful Hoosierman in June 2009. The
Hoosierman was meant to provide a safe and fun recreational experience for the people of Indiana, the local
community of Bloomington, and the entire Midwest. The Hoosierman staff is committed to our mission and we want
to spread the news as far and as wide as we can.
Our partnership with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society provides the Hoosierman an opportunity to give back to a
wonderful organization that gives so much to Indiana and the lives of those affected by blood cancers.
The Hoosierman is located at Fairfax State Recreational Area. Fairfax is dedicated to providing a safe recreational
area for families. We at Hoosierman know the importance of bringing family together and participating in recreational
activities. In addition to supporting Fairfax, we are fortunate enough to have a beautiful beach and some of the best
roads and scenery that southern Indiana has to offer. A special thanks to DNR and the Fairfax staff for providing a
very clean park and a well groomed trail.
Thank you all for being a part of Hoosierman and everything that we stand for!
